World Book Day

This year we celebrated World Book Day with whole week of fun and exciting activities.

Pep the Poet

On Monday we have Pep the Poet in to instill a love of poetry into our children. The children had great fun listening to Pep perform some of his poems during an assembly and then take part in performing lots of Pep’s poems and dressing up during their workshops throughout the day. It was a fantastic day and got the children really excited about reading and performing  poetry.

Sponsored Read-A-Thon

We held a read-a-thon where we challenged our children to read or listen to a range of different texts over the month of February. We asked the children to gain sponsorship money from family and friends if they could complete the challenge. We are putting this money towards new books and a new reading shed for the playground- this will be used at playtimes and lunchtimes for the children to access books to read for pleasure and share with other children. Well done to everyone who took part in the sponsored read and thank you for all the money you raised.

World Book Day- Bedtime theme Dressing up Day

To celebrate World Book Day we chose to go with a ‘Bedtime Story’ Theme. On Thursday 2nd March, all the children came into school dressed up in their PJ’s and brought along one of their favourite books. The children were involved with lots of different book related activities, including peer reading with children from another class where they shared their favourite story, hot chocolates whilst they listened to a story read by their teacher, a special book themed lunch, plus lots more.

Book Fair

We held a book fair for a week, starting on World Book Day. The children helped to raise £643.41 worth of free books for our school. Each class has been delegated £90 of this money to be able to spend on topic books of their choice. Thank you to everyone who came to the book fair and helped to raise so many free books.

Taylor Wimpey Donation

We are very excited to share that Taylor Wimpey North Midlands have very kindly donated a £250 book voucher to school. Carl Cooke, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey, said: “Books are a great way for children to learn about the world around them and discover some amazing stories, incredible characters and terrific    authors that’ll capture their imaginations throughout their childhood and beyond. We were delighted to support Lawley Village Academy with a World Book Day donation and hope that their new books will be enjoyed for years to come.” We will be using the voucher to purchase a number of topic related books for each classroom.
