Governors

At our school, the Governing Body plays an important role in helping to ensure that every child receives the best possible education in a safe, happy and supportive environment.

Our governors are a team of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds who work closely with our school leaders to provide support, challenge and strategic direction. They are committed to ensuring that Lawley Village Academy continues to improve and that all children are able to thrive and achieve their full potential.

What Do Governors Do?

Governors work at a strategic level and are responsible for:

  • Setting the school's vision, values and long term priorities.
  • Supporting and challenging school leaders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring the quality of education, pupil achievement and wellbeing.
  • Ensuring that school finances are managed effectively and resources are used wisely.
  • Making sure the school meets its statutory responsibilities and fulfils its duties regarding safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, including pupils, staff, parents and the wider community.

What Governors Do Not Do

Governors are not involved in the day to day running of the school. This responsibility lies with Miss Freestone and the senior leadership team. Instead, governors focus on the bigger picture by asking questions, reviewing information and ensuring that the school is progressing towards its objectives.

Charlotte Bugler-Smith

Charlotte represents the staff body on the Governing Body, providing valuable insight into school life and contributing to discussions that support the continued development and success of the school.

How Do Governors Support the School?

Governors regularly attend meetings, visit the school, review policies and receive reports on key areas of school life. They may focus on specific responsibilities such as safeguarding, special educational needs, finance, curriculum or wellbeing.

By working in partnership with school leaders, governors help to ensure that:

  • Children are safe and well cared for.
  • High standards of teaching and learning are maintained.
  • School resources are used effectively.
  • Every child has the opportunity to succeed.
