Talk for writing

During English lessons, children are taught using a text based approach following the principles of Talk for Writing. Text examples include 'Don't spill the milk', 'Traction Man', and 'Nobot the Robot with no bottom'.

Talk for Writing, developed by Pie Corbett, is a powerful tool to support children as they develop as writers. It enables them to imitate the language they need for a particular piece of writing orally, before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version.  It emphasises the importance of speaking and listening skills and performing texts using actions before moving on to writing.
